In a bid to act a Nollywood scene, a teenager, Ebubechukwu Odika from Umueze village, Enugwu Achi in Oji River local Government Area of Enugu State, has sent his younger brother to untimely grave.

It was gathered that the 14-year-old boy used his father’s gun to kill his younger brother, Akachukwu Odika, aged 3.

President Buhari angry over subsidy

An angry President Muhammadu Buhari has called manipulators of fuel subsidies payment leading to its escalation into billions of naira as wicked.

This is even as he has warned that severe sanctions will be visited on any individual or organisation that violates the directive on payment of all national revenue into the Federation Account.

The President has also blamed past administrations for the current situation in which Nigeria is forced to spend billions of Naira annually on alleged subsidies for petroleum products.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu‎, quoted the President as saying at a meeting with the Chairman and members of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), that the escalation of petroleum subsidy payments in recent years was due to the deliberate neglect of the nation’s refineries, oil pipelines and other related infrastructure to allow for the importation of petroleum products and corruption to thrive.

Buhari again used the occasion to express his huge disappointment with the way Nigeria’s oil industry has been run since he left office as Petroleum Minister and Military Head of State, stating that he was convinced that if the development of the country’s domestic refining capacity and petroleum products distribution network had kept pace with national demand, there would not have been any need for the huge subsidies currently being paid to importers. “They allowed the infrastructure to collapse so that their cronies can steal by bringing in refined products from overseas,” President Buhari said.

The President urged the chairman and members of the RMAFC, who availed him of their view on the vexed issue of petroleum subsidy payments, to go “back to the drawing board” and come up with more humane proposals to rescue ordinary Nigerians from the “wicked manipulation” of the country’s oil industry by corrupt operators.

The President said that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, the Nigerian Ports Authority and other MDAs which previously relied on the laws establishing them to retain all or part of revenues collected by them, did so illegally and must now comply with the Nigerian Constitution by paying all revenues to the Federation Account.

President Buhari, who also chided the RMAFC for approving excessive remunerations for some political office holders, urged the commission to seek a proper interpretation of its powers and address the public outcry against the unreasonably high payments.

GOBE-Man seeks divorce over wife’s sexual escapades on social media

A businessman, Muyiwa Owolabi, has dragged his wife, Tinuola, to an Ado Ekiti Customary Court to seek dissolution of their ten-year-old marriage over “serial adultery with several men” she met on social media.

Both the petitioner and the defendant agreed on the dissolution of the marriage over irreconcilable differences but the court is yet to resolve on the custody of their two children,

Muyiwa, the Petitioner, who told the court to dissolve the union claimed that he had caught his wife with several men including his junior at secondary school.

He said Tinuola uses the social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp to connect with many men who are now her “man friends and concubines.”

Muyiwa told the court that he had the printouts of the adulterous communications and pictures, including private ones where they recorded pictures of their private parts and other amorous messages.

The printouts of the alleged ‘compromising’ pictures on WhatsApp, and conversation with one Toyin Igbalajobi, her Lagos-based friend who allegedly connected her with men in Lagos and the NOKIA C3 with which he carried out the act were admitted by the court president, Mr. Joseph Ogunsemi and marked as exhibits.

Muyiwa told the court that he caught Tinuola with one Benson Onyechere, his junior at Christ’s School, Ado Ekiti who usually speak with her on phone but when he caught her, she replaced Benson’s name with a supposedly female name, ‘Bola’ to hide her lover’s identity.

The petitioner told the court that another Facebook lover is one Taiwo Oyetunji whom she claimed she met on the social media platform on March 27,2012 while another Facebook lover, one Alaba Sunday Samson had the effrontery of coming to their matrimonial home to visit Tinuola.

Muyiwa also identified other men his wife had amorous relationship with to include Aduloju Olu and Andy Harris who is based overseas, Yinka Daramola and, Kunle Lawal and Bashir

PDP CRISIS- NWC split over Kogi governorship poll

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors and members of its National Working Committee (NWC) are divided over whether or not to support Kogi State Governor Idris Wada for second term.

The governors and the NWC are confused on how to prevent the All Progressives Congress (APC) from winning the governorship poll.

The jostle for the ticket is between Wada and a former banker, Jibrin Isa Echocho.

It was gathered that Governor Olusegun Mimiko, ex-Governors Liyel Imoke and Ibrahim Idris are supporting Wada.

But Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, two governors and some NWC members prefer Echocho because of “his wider acceptance by PDP members and the electorate”.

Mimiko, Imoke and Senator Iyiola Omisore had a long session with Echocho a few days ago to convince him to quit the race.

At the session, the pro-Wada leaders said ordinarily the governor ought to have an automatic ticket – in line with the agreement between PDP governors and ex-President Goodluck Jonathan before the 2015 general elections.

But Echocho vowed not to step down for Wada.

A highly-placed source said: “The PDP is in disarray in Kogi State ahead of the governorship poll. Some PDP governors and NWC members are sharply divided on the choice of the party’s candidate.

“Based on alleged low performance, some governors and NWC members believe that Wada’s candidacy is not sellable.

“They said a survey conducted by the party indicated that the PDP might lose if Wada is fielded.

“They said the ultimate target is to prevent the APC from winning the governorship poll.”

These reasons accounted for the refusal of the NWC to concede automatic ticket to Wada.

But Mimiko, Imoke, Idris and Omisore said Wada had done “reasonably well” and PDP could win the state again.

 Another source added:
“Mimiko and others begged Echocho to step down for Wada, but he refused, saying they were trying to force him to go through his 2011 experience.

“Echocho warned that PDP will lose if Wada is anointed as the candidate of the party,” said the source.

Wada may have to slug it out at the primaries, if Echocho remains adamant.”

Check out Premier League's Richest Clubs This Season

A study by website Sporting Intelligence revealed just how much each of this season's 10 richest sides are worth, delving deeper than the usual balance sheet to use set of financial criteria including total revenue, assets, stadium capacity and wage ratio. Using these thorough workings, here's how much each side is worth:

10. West Ham - £215million Although the Hammers will benefit from the move to the Olympic Stadium next season, their balance sheet has taken a hit from the sale of the Boleyn Ground which was a prized asset. That said, they should benefit from increased matchday revenue once they complete their move to Stratford.

9. Everton - £216million The Toffees turned in a tidy profit of £28million in 2014, but their ongoing quest to land a new stadium is preventing them from moving up to the next level as questions over Bill Kenwright's lack of investment remain from the Everton fans.

8. Newcastle - £221million A large, one-club city that has the Premier League's fifth-richest owner in Mike Ashley - although he has failed to stump up the cash to let his side kick-on. St James' Park continues to sell out, despite regular protests against Ashley's ownership - will the fans finally lose patience?

7. Southampton - £259million Markus Liebherr got Saints back on their feet after taking over the club in 2009 and his daughter Katharina has kept the club ticking over in excellent financial shape. A combination of shrewd work in the transfer market plus the club's academy bearing fruit has seen success on and off the field, with the south coast side making a £31million last year.

6. Liverpool - £537million Let down by their existing infrastructure, Liverpool are looking to increase matchday revenue by expanding the Main Stand at Anfield, which will help them bridge the gap to Arsenal and Manchester United. A return to the Champions League would also help.

5. Tottenham - £710million Tottenham will be quids in when they complete work on their new stadium in 2018 and will be able to boast of having London's biggest club stadium when capacity is swelled to 61,000. They will also then benefit financially from their ten-year agreement with the NFL, which will them host at least two games a season.

4. Chelsea - £826million As in Liverpool's case, their matchday revenue is limited by their stadium, but the Blues have London property prices to contend with if they are to redevelop Stamford Bridge. A record sponsorship deal with Yokohama has helped see the club's value increase by more than a third over the previous two seasons.

 3. Manchester City - £907million They easily have the richest owner - with Shekh Mansour worth almost four times as much as Roman Abramovich - but don't crack the top two according to Sporting Intelligence's criteria. This is largely down to their stadium being owned by the local council and the possibly - albeit diminished - of Financial Fair Play sanctions. Their new £200million training complex is an excellent asset and have not had to invest the kinds of sums into their stadiums that Chelsea and Tottenham have.

 2. Arsenal - £1,118million Wengernomics have transformed Arsenal into a model club, financially speaking. While the Gunners boss is criticised by some frustrated fans for his prudent control of the chequebook, he has personally overseen the construction and finance of the Emirates Stadium, which plays to large gates and brings in huge corporate revenues every game to leave the Gunners profitable and cash rich.

 1. Manchester United - £1,848million It's not a great surprise that the commercial behemoth that is Manchester United are top of this list. One of the biggest clubs in the world, the Red Devils can boast of the largest shirt sponsorship (£47million from Chevrolet per season) and kit deals (a cool three-quarters of a billion pounds over ten years) on the planet and play in the biggest club stadium in the country

Chelsea target John Stones hands in transfer request to Everton

Everton defender John Stones has handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force through a move to Chelsea.

After three failed bids - the last in excess of £30million - from the Stamford Bridge club, Press Association Sport understands the England international has now taken matters into his own hands and formally expressed his desire to leave.

Everton have been resolute in their determination to hang on to the highly-rated 21-year-old and manager Roberto Martinez has insisted throughout the saga the centre-back is not for sale.

Martinez, who is becoming increasingly weary of having to field questions about Stones, refused to even discuss what the club's response would be should the player hand in a transfer request when he was asked about it on Tuesday.

"There is nothing to comment on that," he said.

"Once more, it is always the same question and always the same answer.

"The only thing that matters now is the game we have in front of us.
There is nothing to announce or discuss.

"I know it is your job to keep asking the same question and unfortunately it is my job in this case to always give you the same answer."

WIKE RUNNING FROM PASTOR TO PASTOR

In the past one month, Governor Nyesom Wike has been to many churches seeking prayers for himself. Our former president Goodluck Jonathan did this many times, it did not stop him from being defeated.

Petr Cech “man of the match” -Brendan Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers labelled Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech “man of the match” after a fine performance by the visitors in which the only disappointment was their failure to beat the keeper.

A series of spectacular saves late in the first half kept the home side in the game, with a low block from Christian Benteke the stand out stop from Cech.

Had it not been for the summer signing Liverpool would likely have entered half-time with a convincing league, as the visitors’ high-pressing game disrupted Arsene Wenger’s makeshift backline of Calum Chambers and Gabriel.

And Rodgers was left pleased with a third consecutive clean sheet, if a touch frustrated that his side didn’t get the result their performance warranted.

The Liverpool manager told the SKY SPORTS: "I thought we were very good. First half Petr Cech was the man of the match. Second half we were always a threat going forward. The players worked ever so hard."

Corruption, privatisation cause massive losses in public revenue, says Osinbajo

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, said on Monday that official corruption and privatization of public enterprises led to massive losses in public revenue.

He said this while delivering a key speech at the 55th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Abuja.

He said the penchant for graft was high and Nigerian spent a lot of time meant for creativity to pursue wealth.

“Official corruption and privatization of public resources have caused massive losses in public revenue.

“Indeed the truth is stranger than fiction in this matter of corruption in the public service.

“Dysfunctional government bureaucracies, waste and misallocation of resources.

“A great deal of talent and enterprise that should focus on creativity and innovation is concentrated in wealth seeking activities.’’
The vice president urged lawyers to find means of shedding the public garb that justice could be bought to remove the legal profession from all sorts of compromise.

Osinbajo said that enforcing contracts and the general area of dispute resolution in the country were bugged down by ”judicial process that is slow, burdensome and notoriously open to dilatory tactics. `

`Perhaps even more damaging to attracting investments is the largely and compelling narrative that Justice can be purchased.

“This is a major problem of perception in our justice system and of cause a major problem of bringing business in the country. `

`Even local investment suffers when there is a sense that the Justice system can be compromised.’’
Osinbajo said that it was absolutely important that we deal with the issue of integrity in our judicial system even as we deal with the overall question of corruption.

According to him, there is no question at all that if we don’t handle corruption squarely our justice system will be so degraded that it will be practically impossible to get very much done or to encourage anyone to come into our economy.

He advised the NBA members to find ways of ensuring that authentic dispute resolution were not caught up in the slow moving justice system.

“Applications of all types in the civil courts to stop or delay arbitrary processes run their slow course in many business disputes.

“An economy that must provide jobs for 80 per cent of graduates from our universities and a youth unemployment population of 40 per cent cannot afford destructive delays in creating these wealth opportunities.’’

The vice president said it was the plan of the administration to initiate consultations at the highest levels of government to re-write the story of the nation’s business environment.

Osinbajo mentioned the challenges in the power, infrastucture, employment, and monetary policies and said the administration was committed to finding lasting solutions to them.

In an interview with correspondents, a former President of the NBA, Mr Olisa Agbakoba, (SAN), said that the citizenry needed more action from the government to demonstrate the need for change in the country.

He said the NBA was glad that government was talking tough on corruption and that the association was ready to key into the programme.

“One of the challenges we are posing to government is that we have had so much of talking on different issues.

“What we would now like to see is action.
“So, if for instance you say you want to fight corruption, in what way?

“How will you be able to recover all the loot because access to that is easy?

“I think the essence of the conference is that when we leave here government can begin to take action that we can measure.

“If you want to turn around poverty we can see so. If you want to see new jobs, NBA is demanding action from our government.’’
Agbakoba said it was not true that counsel were deliberately slowing down legal processes and said it was the responsibility of judges to speed up all legal matters.(NAN)

A win will show our title intent, says Hector Bellerin

Hector Bellerin has urged Arsenal to send out a title warning to their Premier League rivals by defeating Liverpool tonight.

The Gunners host Brendan Rodgers’s side at Emirates Stadium looking to build on their win at Crystal Palace nine days ago.

Spanish right-back Bellerin believes beating Liverpool, who have won their opening two matches, would be a statement of intent as Arsenal look to win the League for the first time since 2004.

“Liverpool are one of the sides that are going to be up there, so getting a win will be a great boost,” he told Standard Sport. “It will tell all the teams we came into this season to be at the top.

“The team look really well in training, the performance at Palace was good, pre-season was very, very positive, so we just need to forget about the West Ham game [Arsenal lost 2-0] and just keep pushing on.

“Palace away was a big test. The fact we won and performed well showed people the West Ham defeat on the opening day was a mistake.”

Christian Benteke has caused Arsenal problems in the past — most notably when scoring twice for Aston Villa when winning the first game of the season two years ago — but Bellerin claims his team-mates are better equipped to handle the physical threat posed by Liverpool’s £32.5million signing.

“We study every team every week,” he said. “Benteke won’t be a surprise to us, we just need to know how to play them and that is something we work on every week and have improved at. You need to go for his weaknesses.

Those kind of players are used to you playing a physical game against them.

They are big but maybe you are quicker.
“But it is not only him, they have other dangerous players. We have to be positive to get the result.”

DEAL AGREED Juventus for Juan Cuadrado - Monday's top transfer stories

Petr Cech has left Chelsea and arrived at Arsenal, Radamel Falcao has made his way to Stamford Bridge - while Jose Mourinho, who snatched Pedro from underneath Louis van Gaal's nose last week, hopes he can land defensive reinforcements.

But what are the latest developments?

Juan Cuadrado's career at Stamford Bridge appears to be moving closer after the Blues agreed a fee with Juventus for the Colombia international.

The midfielder only signed for the west Londoners earlier this year but, with an opportunity to play regularly beyond him, the 27-year-old could be off to Turin.

Meanwhile, West Ham are reported to be lining up a loan move for Simone Zaza as Slaven Bilic attempts to bolster his front line.

IMAGINE!!! US Govt finally admits Marijuana kills cancer cells

After decades of speculation, the US government has thrown its weight behind the earth-shattering claims that cannabis kills cancer cells. According to the US government's Cancer.orgwebsite claimed: Health researchers for the US government claim that cannabinoids - the active ingredients in cannabis - can inhibit the illness by causing cell death and blocking key blood vessels needed by tumours to grow.

"Studies in mice and rats have shown that cannabinoids may inhibit tumor growth by causing cell death, blocking cell growth, and blocking the development of blood vessels needed by tumors to grow. Laboratory and animal studies have shown that cannabinoids may be able to kill cancer cells while protecting normal cells.

Key chemical ingredients in marijuana were found effective in fighting against colon cancer, liver cancer, breast cancer and several other forms of the disease. It was also suggested that cannabidiol can boost the effectiveness of chemotherapy - without any of the nasty side effects.

GOBE Man set ablaze for stealing pot of soup in Calabar

A mob in Calabar, Cross River State capital, yesterday, butchered a young man and set the remains on fire beside Atu Secondary School fence along Goldie Street, for allegedly robbing a woman of a pot of soup. His two accomplices escaped.

The hoodlum, in the company of two others, were alleged to have attacked the woman at Mayne Avenue Extension in Calabar South.

They were allegedly attracted by the aroma of the soup the woman was warming for her family’s breakfast before heading for early morning mass at nearby St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.

A young man, who lives in the same premises with the lady, said as the robbers were about to get out of the compound with the pot of soup, the woman raised the alarm, prompting neighbours to go after them. They caught up with the one carrying the pot of soup and dealt him several machete cuts before setting him ablaze.

An eyewitness said: “It was almost dawn when the boys attacked the woman and carried away her pot of soup. When they were about getting out of the compound, she raised alarm and people came out, pursued and caught up with one.”

He said the boy was not able to run as fast as his accomplices because of the pot of soup he refused to drop.

The eyewitness said: “This is not the first time they have come to our compound to steal. Last week, they removed the car battery of one of our neighbours and once night falls, they waylay people, especially ladies, around Goldie by Atu and snatch their handbags and phones.”

At press time, there was no sign of security agents in the area, while the burnt body was still lying by Atu Secondary School fence.

2 Masquerades were nabbed after robbing trader of N57k

Two masquerades were arrested on Saturday in Ovoko community, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State for robbing a trader along the Nsukka-Obollo-Afor Road.

A police officer in Nsukka who pleaded anonymity told DAILY POST on Saturday that the police moved into action when the victim, Mr. Chinonso Ezewaji reported the matter at Nsukka Police Area command.

He said when two of the masquerades were arrested, others ran way

According to him,
“when the police team reached Ovoko, along Nsukka–Obollor-Afor Road, where the masquerades were operating, two of the policemen in the bus pretended as if they wanted to give the two masquerades money; they stretched their hands to collect it and that was how we hand-cuffed them and others ran away.

“Eight masquerades have been on that road since morning tormenting road users; the two of them we arrested have denied involvement in robbing the trader, but they have given the names of the culprits“When we searched one of the arrested masquerades, we saw Indian hemp in his pocket”

Narrating his experience, the victim (Ezewaji), a trader, said he was on his way from Nsukka to Obollo-Afor when the masquerades in Ovoko stopped him, gave him the beating of his life, after which “they searched me and collected N57, 000 from my pockets”.

Meanwhile, the two masquerades, who identified themselves as Kenchukwu Eze, a carpenter and Ejiofor Eze , brick-layer alleged that they were not part of the team that robbed the victim. They gave the name of the masquerade involved as Chima Mamah.

“We only collected N20, N100 and N500 from people; we didn’t participate in collecting the N57,000″, one of them claimed.

However, kenechukwu Eze, while admitting that the police recovered Indiam Hemp from him, said “If police will release me, I will not wear masquerade or smoke Indian hemp again. It is the left-over of the one we smoked before coming out”, he said.

WEST BROM THE WORST HUNTING GROUND FOR CHELSEA COACHES

The unhappiest of hunting grounds await Chelsea at a rather trying time. Three losses and one draw is the record at the Hawthorns since 2011.

Two of those three losses preceded manager firings. While Mourinho is not at all likely to suffer the same fate as Andre Villas- Boas or Roberto Di Matteo did, he also has not managed to find a win there since returning to Chelsea.

No time like the present to break that streak. Normally fast starters, Chelsea are off to their worst start to a league campaign since 1998. That year, Chelsea finished 3rd, just four points off the leaders. Chelsea are also off to the worst start for a defending champion since Manchester United in 2007. United of course went on to win the Premier League and Champions League double.

Today will mark Mourinho’s 300th match in charge of Chelsea. He will be just the fifth manager in the club’s history to do so, and the first since Dave Sexton reached that milestone in the early ‘70s. Others include David Calderhead, Ted Drake, and Tommy Docherty. Good company.

West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster is still recovering from the ACL injury suffered in March. Everyone else is available, including new signing Salomon Rondon, whom we had the pleasure of meeting in the Europa League a couple years ago, when he still played for Rubin Kazan.

Dating back to last season, West Brom have just 3 wins in their last 11 Premier League games. They have yet to score a goal this season.

Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois has been confirmed to resume his first-choice goalkeeping duties after serving a one-match suspension. Victor Moses and Oscar remain sidelined with minor injuries. Their absence, in addition to the team’s flagging form could see new boy Pedro in action right away.

Mourinho’s more crucial and certainly more watched decision will be in defense. Chelsea’s tried and trusted foursome is having serious issues and a shake-up is quickly becoming overdue. John Terry might have already retired, if some reports are to be believed.
Still, it would be suprising to see another new arrival, Baba Rahman get into the game straight away.

A 19YRS OLD BOY HACKED HIS GRANDPA TO DEATH IN DELTA

Oghara, the ancestral home of former governor of Delta State, James Ibori, has been thrown into confusion following the alleged killing of an 85-year-old grandfather by his grandson who he shared his three bedroom mud apartment with.

He was said to have allegedly used an axe to hack his octogenarian grandpa to death after an argument with the deceased over his drinking habit.
The 19-year-old suspect has since gone into hiding, having realised the enormity of his offence.
The lifeless body of the deceased was discovered in the pool of his blood in his residence, according to a relative who pleaded not to be mentioned in print.

“The old man had just returned home from an outing when the suspect alleged, that his grandpa was under the influence of alcohol and about going for another round of drinking spree. So, the suspect sought to prevent the octogenarian from going out,” the source explained.

In the ensuing struggle, the suspect took an axe and hacked his grandpa to death. Consequently, he disappeared into the thing air before the arrival of sympathizers who trooped in to witness the gory incident.

It was gathered that the deceased had on several occasions raised the alarm over the spate of threats of attack by his grandson. He was quoted as saying that if any untoward event happens to him his grandson should be held responsible.

Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Celestina Kalu, could not, however, confirm the incident, saying her office was yet to receive any report of the incident.

GOD IS ALL WE NEED

God is all we need and he who has the Lord will also get groceries.

Jesus establishes three spiritual laws pertaining to prayer. He says: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” (Matthew 7:7-8).

 Asking and receiving

Believers’ need for things is met through prayer. The Lord is our shepherd, therefore he provides for us. Jesus asks: “What man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” (Matthew 7:9-11).

God’s “good things” are different from man’s “good things.” The Lord says: “My thoughts and my ways are not like yours. Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, my thoughts and my ways are higher than yours.” (Isaiah 55:8-9). An anonymous writer says: “I asked for strength and God gave me difficulties to make me strong. I asked for wisdom and God gave me problems to solve. I asked for prosperity and God gave me brawn and brains to work.”

“I asked for courage and God gave me dangers to overcome. I asked for patience and God placed me in situations where I was forced to wait. I asked for love and God gave me troubled people to help. I asked for favors and God gave me opportunities. I asked for everything so I could enjoy life. Instead, He gave me life so I could enjoy everything. I received nothing I wanted, I received everything I needed.”

A child asks the father for what he cannot provide for himself. But many things in life don’t come merely through asking. If you are looking for oil in the Lake Chad Basin, you don’t merely ask for it: you seek the oil.

Seeking and finding

There is a big difference between asking and receiving and seeking and finding. What we ask for and receive is different from what we seek and find. We ask for things and receive things. But we seek God and his kingdom and receive the Lord himself.

True believers never seek things: only unbelievers do so. Believers ask for things. Things come to us just by the asking.
But unbelievers seek things in order to get them.

The heavenly father gives good things to those who ask him. But he does not give things to those who seek him. Those who seek him are not looking for things. Those who seek him are looking for him. In the kingdom of God, we ask the Father for things and receive them. But we seek God himself and find him. When we become seekers, we stop asking for things: we receive things automatically.

Jesus says: “Do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear? For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:31-33).

 Seeking vanities

Asking is a straightforward process. All it involves is the tabling of a demand. But seeking requires time and effort. When a believer has need for things, he simply asks God and receives them.
However, unbelievers don’t have our heavenly Father; they only have earthly fathers. Therefore, they seek things. Unbelievers seek, search, pursue and actively strive in order to acquire things. They devote themselves to this endeavour. They work at it. They expend all their time and energy in the acquisition of things.

They seek promotion. They seek wealth. They seek riches. Unbelievers seek; they don’t ask. But believers don’t have the dog-eat-dog mentality of unbelievers. We don’t have to push, shove, lie, cheat, and employ all kinds of carnal tactics in order to get the things of this world. Believers do not seek the things of this world. Believers only seek God.

If we seek the Lord, we will find him. Therefore, we should not just seek redemption; we should seek the redeemer. We should not just seek forgiveness; we should seek the forgiver. We should not just seek blessings; we should seek the “blesser.” Believers are of the generation of Jacob; the generation of those who seek the Lord; who seek his face. (Psalm 24:6).

A child’s relationship with his father might initially only be devoted to getting things from him. When sees his father, he asks him for money; for clothes; for shoes. But sooner than later, he should come to the father for the sake of the father.

He should come to see the father because he wants to have a relationship with him. He should come to see the father because he likes the father. He should come to see the father because he wants to talk to him. Accordingly, his relationship would graduate from asking for things to seeking the Lord. When we seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness, all other things are added to us without our having to ask for them. God is all we need and he who has the Lord also gets groceries.

Knocking and entering

But there is an even more excellent way, and that is the way of knocking. The kingdom principle says: “Knock and it shall be opened to you.” There is a distinct difference between seeking and knocking, just as there is a difference between asking and seeking.
Asking is easy. Seeking requires some effort. Knocking, on the other hand, is insistent and persistent. He that seeks, finds. He that knocks has found whom he is seeking.

When we knock, a door of entrance is opened to us. When we knock, we have already found the person we are looking for. When we knock, it is because we know where God lives and want to enter into his presence. When we knock, we enter into his fullness and into his life. When we knock, it is no longer Christ in us, but us in Christ. It is a wonderful and magnificent mystery: “Christ in you the hope of glory.”

When we knock and enter, we put on the Lord Jesus. When we knock, we put on the new man which is created after God in true righteousness and holiness. In short, the whole point of our walk with God is that we become what we contain.

“While in bed at night, I reached for the one I love with heart and soul. I looked for him, but he wasn’t there. So I searched through the town for the one I love. I looked on every street, but he wasn’t there. I even asked the guards patrolling the town, ‘Have you seen the one I love so much?’ Right after that, I found him. I held him and would not let go until I had taken him to the home of my mother.” (Song of Solomon 3:1-4).

Carlos Tevez defends Lionel Messi against Argentina critics

Boca Juniors forward Carlos Tevez came out in defence of his Argentina teammate Lionel Messi in the latest chapter of that country's debate over criticism towards the Barcelona striker based upon the Albiceleste's international failures.

The four-time Ballon d'Or winner was criticised last month by some in the Argentine media following his team's penalty shootout defeat to hosts Chile in this summer's Copa America final, with even former Argentina coach Diego Maradona questioning his performances.

"If I were Messi and had to listen to the criticism he has had, I would not return," Tevez said. "He has to really love the Argentine shirt to keep coming back."

Messi, 28, has won every available trophy for Barca but has yet to win a trophy with the senior Argentina side.

Tevez came down hard on the journalists in Argentina that started the debate and said that the criticism "has to hurt [Messi] because it also hurts his family."

Tevez said: "You can criticise a player who didn't play well or who wasn't fit for a match but you can't say he doesn't step up or say awful things outside of football about him as they have, you just can't. As a journalist, you have to give a message each day. You can be in agreement or not, you can like a player or not like him, but you can't kill him like that."

Tevez also defended his teammates on the national team, saying that he was convinced that they would win the Copa America in Chile and admitted the defeated was a huge blow.

"If we had lifted ourselves up with just 20 percent more of what we already had, we would have won the Cup," Tevez said. "It was a huge blow. Look, I have been through difficult moments but regarding the national team, he has been through the worst."

Martino, who also coached Messi at Barca, said earlier this week that he regrets previous comments he made saying that he "would have stopped playing with the national team a long time ago" if he had faced such criticism.

"It was something imprudent," Martino said. "I should not have said it. It is my opinion, but I should not have said it out loud."

Messi, Tevez and Manchester City's Sergio Aguerov were all included in the Argentina 24- man squad recall for September friendlies in the United States against Bolivia and Mexico

IT IS FORBIDDEN FOR WIVES LEFT BEHIND BY OBA SIJUWADE TO REMARRY

The wives of the late‎ Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the Olubuse II, by tradition cannot re-marry after the demise of their husband, a palace chief has told The Nations.

The chief, who preferred to be anonymous, said the order was prescribed by the Ife tradition since the Ooni is not considered dead but to have transited to a higher realm.

Maintaining that the Ooni still lives, he said it is forbidden for wives left behind by Oba Sijuwade to re-marry.

He said: “The rules is general and applies to all Ooni that has passed on and not peculiar to the wives of Oba Sijuwade, the immediate past Ooni. There may not be a clearly defined repercussion against the tradition but it is advisable that the order is obeyed at all times and for all generations. The best that can happen to the oloris left behind by any late Ooni is for them to remain single or be inherited by the reigning Ooni.”

He added that it does not matter whether the wives are young or old, “what matters is that the tradition must be sustained in the overall interest of the society.”

The late Ooni’s wives are Oloris Morisola, Ladun, Odunayo, Adedolapo and Linda and their ages are between 40’s and 60’s

AMBODE TO MOTHERS - GOOD NUTRITION IS VERY IMPORTANT

Mothers in Nigeria have been counselled to give good nutrition to their growing children so as to ensure sound intellectual and physical growth. The wife of Lagos State governor, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode, who gave the advice yesterday in Lagos while declaring open the 10th Nutritional Seminar of Frieslandcampina Wamco Nigeria, at Oregun, Ikeja, said some mothers are either not sure of what nutrition to give to their children or completely unaware of this significant period of a child’s life.

She said that the first five years of a child’s life was the most critical that sets the stage for the child’s intellectual development, lifelong health, as well as vulnerability.

According to her, “Certainly, the brain development and mental health of a child is essential and it should never be neglected. Science reveals that there is no other period of a child’s life when nutrition has such profound impact as compared to the first five years of a child’s life. This is a critical period that sets the stage for a child’s intellectual development, lifelong health, a period of enormous potentials as well as vulnerability,” Mrs. Ambode said.

Ambode said the theme of the seminar; “Physical Growth and Brain Development of the Nigerian Child: The Challenge of Our Time”, was apt, just as she urged healthcare practitioners to deploy the knowledge acquired from the seminar in their daily practice, she commended the company for its nutritional brands which have become household names in Nigeria.

In his welcome address, Rahul Colaco, the managing director, FrieslandCampina Wamco Nigeria Plc, reiterated the company’s commitment to quality diary nutrition, part of which includes providing adequate up to date researched information on child nutrition, thereby helping to reduce the incidences of malnutrition amongst women and children in Nigeria.

Moses Siasia has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP

The youngest governorship aspirant in Bayelsa state, Moses Siasia has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, regretting that young people have no future in the party.

The 35 year-old Chairman of multi-billion naira business empire, Mosilo Group, in a statement, stressed that the leadership of the PDP in Bayelsa has isolated him because he chose to champion the cause of the youths.

“I always wanted to see a PDP that will transform into modern day realities and a party that places high premium on the YOUTH who are the engine room of any nation but the more I pushed for youth inclusion in all affairs of the party, the more I was isolated. There was always greater emphasis on money politic rather than ideological prospects. I have carefully watched over the years and have come to the painful conclusion that the PDP is not ready to change its old ways of imposition, godfatherism and gangsterism,” he noted in the statement.

 Read full statement below:

For many years now, I have been actively involved in supporting successive governments in my beloved country Nigeria.

I have always believed that every citizen needs to support their government for such government to succeed which was why I supported the governments of late President Umaru Musa Yaradua and that of Goodluck Jonathan. I had thought that by supporting these two governments, I would have fulfilled my patriotic duties as a citizen of my country. I have continuously done my best through my various contributions towards governance in Nigeria through my organization “Nigerian Young Professional Forum (NYPF).

I joined the PDP when one of my overzealous cousins went to my ward to talk about registering me there. I later found the idea to be a very good one and was excited about the whole idea of party politics and making a difference.

I continued to be actively involved in party politics from 2013 till date and the more I got involved in the politics of the party, the more discouraged I became. I saw that so many things were not been done properly and I always wanted to advice and make corrections but the more vocal I became, the more they isolated me, may be because they felt I was a threat to the business as usual way of doing things.

I always wanted to see a PDP that will transform into modern day realities and a party that places high premium on the YOUTH who are the engine room of any nation but the more I pushed for youth inclusion in all affairs of the party, the more I was isolated. There was always greater emphasis on money politic rather than ideological prospects.

I have carefully watched over the years and have come to the painful conclusion that the PDP is not ready to change its old ways of imposition, godfatherism and gangsterism.

After the elections, it became very obvious and clear that Nigerians had rejected the PDP because they were tired of seeing the same old faces doing the same thing for16years. Faces that the people were convinced are corrupt and cant bring the desired change to the people. The people wanted new faces and something new.

The PDP had a clear chance of redeeming its image in the eyes of the Nigerian people by injecting fresh ideas and fresh faces which would have automatically rebranded the party and restore confidence in the party. I had presented myself to the party on many occasions urging them to use me as that face with a perfect case for Bayelsa State but the party has failed to take advantage of this great opportunity.

The PDP had every opportunity to rebrand and rediscover itself after its defeat at the just concluded general election but I can now see they do not wish to change or evolve.

I, have, therefore, today the 22nd of August decided to leave the party for ideological reasons. I can no longer stay on in the party because they do not have respect for my generation or me. I have nothing personal with the party and will continue to respect her but I think young people have no future in the party.

A Gang up against Audu

Ironically, Audu who was dethroned by the PDP in 2003 is leading the pack of the 28 aspirants jostling to replace Wada, the incumbent governor of the party at Lugard House in the November election. The other aspirants include Alhaji Yahaya Bello; Senator Alex Usman Kadiri; Hussein Idris Kashim; Alh. Sanusi Abubakar Aliyu (Gamji); Senator Nicholas Yahaya Ugbane; Sani Halilu Shuaibu; Suleman Baba Ali; AVM Saliu Atawodi; Muhammad Abdullahi; Senator Nuruddeen Abatemi Usman; the only female contestant, Princess Hadiza Ibrahim; Yakubu Mohammed, a former acting governor of the state, Hon. Clarence Olafemi; and Suleiman Ejeh Abutu.

The others are Sunday Ejibo; Otunba Suleman Lanre Ipinmisho; Dr. Tim Nda Diche; Habeeb Abdullahi Yakeen; Rotimi Yakub Obadofin; Babatunde Irukera; Ocholi Enojoh James; Aliyu Zakari Jiya; Olushola George Olumoroti; and Dr. Onukaba Adinoyi Ojo. Audu had also served as the governor of Kogi State from January 1992 to November 1993.

To signify his position as a leading and the most experienced among the aspirants, Audu had described his fellow contestants as ‘school leavers’ in a chat with journalists after he obtained his nomination form some weeks ago. Sources told this magazine that the chance of the former Governor emerging as the gubernatorial candidate is brightened by the fact that members of executives of the Kogi chapter of APC are his loyalists.

Indeed, the former Governor had always boasted that he built up the APC in Kogi State as he has always been in opposition while most of the other aspirants just decamped from the PDP.

Supporters of Audu have continue to tout his achievements like the establishment of the State University, Polytechnic, housing development and construction of inter township roads among others, which according to them have not been equaled by his successors as reasons why the former Governor should be allowed to occupy the governorship seat for another four years.

But if there is any aspirant who all the other aspirants will, if possible, prevent from participating in the gubernatorial primaries, it is Audu. For one, most of the aspirants believe that the former Governor has had his time in governing Kogi State and should allow others to try their hands on the job.

Audu case is also not helped by the fact that he is still being tried by the EFCC on corrupt allegation related to mismanagement of funds during his first time in office. Other aspirants are already playing this fact as one of the reasons the APC which was elected into office on its strong anti corruption stance should not allow the former governor fly its flag in the impending election.

IF I LOSE THE PARTY TICKET, I WILL SUPPORT WHOEVER WINS- GOV WADA

Kogi State Governor, Capt Idris Wada, has said he was not bothered by the stance of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Working Committee (NWC), not to give him automatic ticket ahead of the election slated for November 21, 2015.

Addressing newsmen last week, National Organising Secretary, Abubakar Mustapha, had assured aspirants for the governorship ticket that there would be a level playing field for all of them as there would be no automatic ticket for Wada.

At an interactive session with journalists shortly after picking his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms yesterday, Wada said he was not bothered by the position of the Uche Secondus-led NWC as he noted that there was no provision for automatic ticket in the PDP constitution.

Wada said:” By the grace of God, I am not disturbed, there is no provision in the PDP constitution that says first term governors have automatic ticket. It is a process and what we are doing today is part of it. There is a process that must be followed. So, I don’t think that it is a new thing.”

Governor Wada, who expressed confidence that he would defeat other contenders to emerge as the party standard bearer, however, assured the party faithful that he would support whoever emerges if he was defeated at the party primary scheduled for September.

“If I lose the party ticket, I will support whoever wins. For me, it isn’t a do or die affair,” he said.

The governor declared that based on his performance in office, the PDP would retain the state as he submitted that the party put up impressive performance in the last general elections.

I HAVE SEEN IT ALL AND AM CAPABLE-ZAKARI

The Acting Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mrs. Amina Zakari has said she is capable of handling the activities of the commission, especially as she is not oblivious of its challenges and successes.

She said aside being an INEC staff for long, working closely with the former chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, had given her much exposure about the job, adding that what was needed at the moment was the will to build on the achievements made so far.

In her words: “There shouldn’t be any problem, I have been part of the process, I know the problems, challenges and have equally seen the successes, what is remaining is to build on the success and to try and tackle the outstanding challenges.” Zakari said though the bulk of the work had been done by her former boss as regards election management, there was still much to be done and improved on.

She, however, added that the work could only be done successfully with the support of Nigerians.

“Basically, with the co-operation of all, the support of staff and the people of Nigeria, we should be able to do the job, pending when a new commission would be put in place,” she said.

AMAECHI TO WIKE - YOU ARE A LIAR

Former Governor of Rivers State, Cheif Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has refuted claims by his successor, Nyesom Wike, that he left an empty treasury. Governor Wike had insisted that he met a completely empty treasury when he took over.

Only on Wednesday, while trying to justify why he took N30billion bank loans from Zenith and Access banks under 30 days in office, Wike had through his spokesman, Opunabo Inko-Tariah, told a radio station in Port Harcourt that he met an empty treasury.

However, Amaechi has openly put a lie to Wike’s claim, saying he left billions of naira in cash and economic assets. In a statement issued by his Media Office yesterday, Amaechi said N7.5billion cash was the balance in the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) account with Skye Bank, FAAC account with Zenith Bank, balances with Access Bank and funds in the state reserve fund account in First Bank.

“This is besides other balances in the Government House account with Zenith Bank and other government MDA accounts, like the Bureau for Public Procurement (BPP). By the time you pull all these together, we are looking at readily available cash in the region of eight to 10 billion naira left for the Wike administration.

“It’s also pertinent to point out here that former Governor Amaechi also left economic assets worth tens of billions of naira for the state. Just like cash, the assets store value.
These assets that are scattered in diverse sectors of the economy were developed or built or procured with revenue that accrued to the state during Amaechi’s tenure. The assets belong to Rivers State, not AmaechiSome of these assets are presently yielding revenue to the state coffers, and many can be easily and readily converted to cash, if the state so desires.”

“It is therefore, disingenuous and fraudulent for Wike to claim that Amaechi left an empty treasury in his bid to justify the N30billion loans he collected under 30 days in office.

Rather than this puerile and distraction of always pointing accusing fingers at Amaechi, Wike should come out to explain to Rivers people what he took the loans for, account for and justify every kobo that has been spent from the loans”, the statement noted.

Dragging Buhari into ISIS chief’s visa incident mischievous-Presidency

The Presidency yesterday cautioned against dragging the name of President Muhammadu Buhari into the controversy over how a leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Ahmed Al-Assir, got a Nigerian visa.

A presidential spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, said yesterday that it was mischievous to drag the person of President Muhammadu Buhari into how the ISIS chief secured the visa.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called for a full report on the case and it is investigating it.But it is mischievous for anyone to attempt to drag the person of President Muhammadu Buhari into the incident.
The Buhari administration had nothing to do with the suspect or the supposed visit of the ISIS chief.

“Without prejudice to the ongoing investigation, it should be noted that Nigerian missions are to serve, they can adjudge an applicant for visa on the basis of documents presented to the Embassy.
What is hidden in their heart, you will not know
“And for this applicant, we have read report of how he concealed his identity and wore a new look to get the visa.

“Since the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is looking into the matter, let us await the outcome of the investigation.”

According to the Nation,Al-Assir, said to be the Chief Imam of ISIS was arrested on August 15 at Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport in Lebanon on his way to Nigeria through Egypt.

In spite of being on the watch-list of Lebanon’s security services since 2013, Al-Assir was detected while holding a fake Palestinian passport with the Nigerian visa.

The Lebanese government accused him of involvement in the death of 17 Lebanese soldiers.

He was also sentenced to death in absentia by a Lebanese court.
But how he beat the visa process at the Nigerian Embassy in Lebanon is creating ripples in security circles.

The Federal Government is said to be disturbed that Al-Assir succeeded in deceiving the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and Embassy officials. Although the suspect reportedly changed his identity and looks and presented superficial documents for visa, the government decided to probe the incident to ascertain that there was no internal collaboration at its mission.
